I’m going to be as fair as I can be with regards to companies like Amway, Market America, Primerica, Landmark Education (which I just went to yesterday) and all those other sales driven companies. They’re all fucking gay - is that fair? I don’t care (oooh, that rhymed).
Listen, they’re all great companies. I am all about matching buyers with sellers - that’s textbook economics. What’s awful about these companies isn’t the products or their services. The evil comes from the people who are involved, the people who get INTO it. I’ve been an observer of these type of companies for years now and what I enjoy about them is the enthusiasm some of these people have for what they’re selling. Yeah, 10 dollars for a bar of soap (Amway & Market America). Sure, if I find an idiot who’s willing to pay that much for some fucking soap I’m selling, I’d be happy too.
This goes for selling knives and make-up for college students too (fucking kids).
The EVIL as I mentioned is when someone starts selling to his friends and family what he/she feels they need even though they may not necessarily need it. The seller feels (or has been brainwashed) to think that EVERYONE in the world needs their products (insurance, financial planning, soap) and that they would be better off after buying it. When the seller becomes so engrossed into his product or reaches that point when he’s, “holy shit, I’m not selling anything” and starts to cross into unethical territory, that’s the EVIL - because their incentive is partly, yes, to make your lives better, but mostly that COMMISSION BASED income.
My Beef w/ Landmark Education (or how I wasted 3 hours of my life)
So a friend (though now I’m not so sure) calls me up at around 6:40 yesterday and asks me to come to this meeting/presentation she’s doing. Listen, I’ll support my friends if they’re doing a presentation, thinking that it was for a college class or something. So I go down there between W33rd and 8th and I see this giant sign with the logo for Landmark Education. This creates a comfort for potential customers (victims) in that, hey, it’s an official company, look, they’ve got a giant logo inside a building, in NYC no less. I go inside, it’s very standard, you get your name tag, you sign a list, there’s a survey and you go into a room with a bunch of people. THEY GIVE THEIR SALES PITCH.
Landmark Education is the sales without the product. This is brilliant. Basically those weekly sales meetings that Primerica (financial services) give you FOR FREE each week, to motivate you, is what they’re selling. Maybe you’ve heard how people who sell Amway or Market America (vitamins and soap) product come together weekly/monthly/bimonthly in a giant stadium and scream “I can do it, this is my life blah blah blah.” Well, this is what this course is about. They’re telling me that I can buy that weekly motivational meeting for 500 dollars tuition - TUITION! ugh, what a scam.
Here’s how you can tell immediately what this is all about. When you go into the room, where they give their pitch, it’s nothing but a few steel fold-up chairs (because at any moment, they’ll have to quickly move since it’s such a scam) and a chalk/marker board. The presenter (salesman/woman) draws up diagrams, throws numbers at you and asks you why you’re not already buying their shit. If you decide to cop out 5 bills, you’ve already fallen into the trap. In fact, you’ve already fallen into it by going to one of these meetings. You feel like you’ve invested your time/money and you don’t want to let that investment go to waste.
So there were two broads and they asked questions about where your life isn’t working out and they tell you that with their course, you’ll be able to know what you want and will know the necessary steps to get what you want. FUCK YOU. Here’s some advice for you readers (all 5, my favorite readers in the whole world): Take a vacation, read a few books, if you’re working at a dead end job, quit, because then you’ve got some time to think about it. Paying 500 dollars a week and going to consecutive weekend meetings may help but it’s the same thing as just taking some time off and just trying to figure it out on your own.
Whatever, if you’re a loser and can’t figure out what you want then you deserve to throw away 500 dollars.
Did anyone cry at your meeting? Once I went to one of those introductory landmark meetings and atleast two people started crying. It didn’t convince me to join or anything but it was entertaining.
No, no one cried when I went. If they cried, I would have laughed because I’m an awful human being and because Landmark Education is a dumb thing to cry at.
Well, my name must be Sucka of All Times, ’cause I have paid TWICE to take Landmark’s “The Forum” class! lol But this was in the nineties and it didn’t cost $500/pop here in Chicago back then.
Seriously though, my Landmark class was extremely powerful and well worth the money. Maybe my personality issues are worse off than y’alls ;-) It really was very helpful in 1) making me see some of my own b.s. that I needed to work on, to have more successful relations (with EVERYone), and 2) helping me see that my issues are not unique, that everyone’s got baggage from childhood — a lot of it more dramatic and damaging than my own.
I didn’t mind paying the money so much. What was a turn-off is their sort off “cult like” way of speaking in buzz-words, and not letting you go pee whenever you want. LOL
If you don’t feel motivated enough in life, feel angry, feel lonely, feel unloved or unsatisfied by your honey, got issues with your parents, can’t get along with your boss — whatever — what’s discussed in these classes will definitely give you the mind-set to take charge and move forward.

We had a guest speaker at a work conference I went to. While at the after party she went around sucking people into going the Landmark Forum. She was extremely insistent and I was too polite to say no so I went thinking it was harmless. I’ve never herd of such Bullshit in my life! I was stuck in there for what seemed like forever. All the people who gave their testimonials sounded like they came right out of a C grade, straight to TV movie. All of them bullshit artists! The seating was arranged so that it was difficult for anyone to leave without tripping over people and becoming the center of attention so that the speaker would ask what they were doing. After it had all finished I tried to leave immediately but was ambushed by sales people blocking the exit. Even though I made it clear I didn’t want to buy into their crap they would not get out of my way! I actually had to shove past them to get out. These people are evil. They prey on the weak and desperate such as those with problems e.g kweenkong, You got sucked in!
I paid $595 for “nothing” and in return I received “everything”. What I got is priceless.

I cannot say that these people [landmark education] have bad intentions. They just want to make money and they use psychological manipulation to do so.- This, however is wrong [morally, ethically, and it should be banned- just like in France.

People want something to believe in and Landmark Education is one of the things that are out there for people to clutch at. There’s food, religion, immersion in education..anything that will make you feel better about yourself.
As you can see, my problem is their method and the desperate people that will believe in anything. Obviously critical thinking is dying but that’s another issue by itself.
Landmark education even has a dating section on their website because they are probably aware that they ruin relationships.

My advice is to be careful about what you get yourself into. It cannot be psychologically healthy. Taken from their website

How can that help you? If you do go and become fanatical, hopefully you are similar to many people and the effects wear off over time and you look back, reflect, have some Praxis, ask yourself what the hell were you thinking and vow to never be that weak-minded again.

I think the landmark forum is a scam, ripping people of their hard earned money. On top of that, its almost like a MLM system. It pitches you against someone you know closely (friend, relative, family), and sucker you into bringing this someone into the forum. More money gutted down. Ofcourse you would disagree, and thats why they make vanilla and chocolate.

I did the Forum many years ago and did the original EST training I found it very valuable, “it’s easier to ride the horse the direction it’s going in… Keep your agreements and be on time”
THe BEST seminar was the 6-day course… they dont have that anymore… that alone was worth doing the training

Stating your so-called facts does not make Landmark Education any less harmful. Your “successful” friends are not impressive either. If you compare the “millions” to the “hundreds of millions” who are successful without Landmark, it doesn’t quite fly as high does it ? I took the Forum and felt the Euphoria at the point of giving up my free thought but I somehow regained my senses. Only problem was that my girlfriend went in way over her head and nearly ruined her life. She was and is very successful and was prior to getting involved in this scam. I did a lot of research in order to help her and two of her siblings realize what they were involved in. They did finally “GET IT” and quit but not before they nearly went broke giving their money away. People in the Forum should always ask themselves this question upon completion of the course, “What were my goals going into the class and now what are my goals”. There will be a very big gap. The groups goals become your goals, bring your friends, become a Forum Leader etc. My advice to people who are considering LE is do your research, ask a lot of questions and remember that people under the influence of mind control will not be telling you anything except what the group wants them to say. They don’t force them to do anything, they don’t have to, that is the beauty of mind control. If you don’t believe in mind control Google it and learn about the CIA and their experiments. My opinion for what it is worth is STAY AWAY, if it seems to good to be true………………………

I have my own business and have owned it for 12 years so I do know business. Some people may think it worked for them but in the end they find out in the end that either they blew a fortune and got nothing or they blew a fortune and by coincidence they made their life better. My point is that they take advantage of people who are down on their luck and they use their hope for a better life or better circumstances to get them to commit money to courses that teach you………..really nothing. As I am writing, your website is not providing consumers with the correct information. Most insurance companies only sell their own insurance policy. Except if you deal with a broker who sells multiple company policies. Perhaps you either is belonging to or promoting consumers to deal with broker.
Besides since part time is open for life insurance industry, therefore RBC, Manulife, etc are capturing part time insurance agents as well. It is a falsify statement that Primerica encourages part timer. I guess you comment 5 reason why not deal with Primerica is because Primerica is the only company who doesn’t deal with brokers. Not sure if this is your case?!

No Idea about Market America but MLM is a very tricky affair and often turns out to be fraud or less rewarding than what is often claimed. Though I’ve generated few sales (not too many) but can’t rely on any MLM where you have to refer others to get good money. I always look for straight method of earning, run few websites that generate some revenues. I have heard about PnP sites but never tried the same for simple reason I just do not like the idea of forcing others to do a certain task. May be I’m wrong in my approach but this is my own belief.

My girlfriend was in LE for 2 years before her world began to fall apart. It’s quite interesting that so many people get so angry at what other people do with their lives. This is a free country and no one has the right to tell people what to do as long as they do it ethically and truthfully. I am a Registered Representative with Primerica and in the beginning I thought it was also a rip off. I did my research though, not through bloggers or angry people on the web, but through the Better Business Bureau, (BBB), Dun and Bradstreet, AM Best, and my Attorney General office. I did not get into Primerica only for the money but because no other financial services company will give the middle class a fair shake, this company does, and for the financial education that it offers. I am one of the middle class and always wanted to invest for years but because I didn’t have the thousand to do so, I couldn’t. The basic financial education that you can take away from this company, if most of the people who are loosing their homes today received this education, they would not be in the mess they are today by the so called “true business” out there.
Before you start striking at Primerica, take a good look at the qualifications to stay in the company, you have to get licensed by your state to offer Insurance. You have to get licensed from the National Association of Securities Dealer (NASD), the federal government, to offer investment to clients. If you think Primerica is a fake company, then all the investments companies out there are also fake. Primerica Representatives market most of the well known investment company’s products in this country. Yes, people do make money in this business, just like most investment bankers and business owners do. You will find unethical people in every company/industries in this world, even in the churches. It’s for you to know the truth and make a difference. Research all the companies through the right sources and then judge them.

I can’t speak for primerica, but i can speak for landmark education having done some of their programs. first off, landmark education isn’t multi level marketing–there are no commissions you get for referring anyone. Its definitely not a cult–it isnt even something to believe in or join or anything, tho some people do take a lot of the courses. Its simply a company that has courses that you take or dont.
Personally, I thought they worked really well for me. I think one reason people find the courses challenging is that they really force you to confront where youre not taking responsibility for the way your life is going. I noticed during the course that id been blaming my boss for years about how much my company sucked instead of just getting a new job that I really liked. The course kind of has you deal with everywhere where you blame someone or something else for things not working instead of doing something about it. Politics is another good example. Like most people I complained a lot that politicians suck, that the Bush administration sucked. Now i’ve gotten involved and been working on a campaign for a few months, something i’d never have done if i hadn’t taken that course.
I have a family member that fell for this and they don’t deserve this, no one deserves to be brain washed and scammed in my opinion.
Wow, some of these people are really bitter. I went to one of these Landmark Education sessions and I juset felt bad for them. Somebody needs to show them that they don’t need a class to have a better life or a better job.
I feel like it really depends on where you are in your life. If you’re successful then you’re not going to be persuaded by these companies. If you’re at that point in your life where you feel like you’re stuck at a deadend job and you want a change then this certainly gives you some perspective. It’s not for everyone but it’s not for nobody either.
- You pay $199 but you are reimbused when you successfully go through training.
- Its refundable minus $40 as per the contract up to 4 months after you sign up.
- You receive an actual state licence that is not owned by Primerica. So if you leave Primerica, and still want to do finance, this is a bonus for you.
- Its a part of CitiGroup. I very much doubt that CitiGroup would keep an entity around that was offering bad products, and the majority of the Reps were bad as well.
Company’s that scam people out of money are shut down because it is a form of stealing. So the Primerica, Amway, Land Mark, etc. wouldn’t be around if it isn’t a proven system. People relate these company’s to a MLM because it resembles one. Let me ask you this. Say you work at a retail store as an associate and work your way up to management, What do you do in this position? HIRE people. Say you move on up to District Manager or even higher to Regional Manager. You over see the managers who over see the associates who work with customers. Climbing the corporate ladder right? Sound like a pyramid? Most of the responses to this blog defend Primerica. I wonder why? Maybe they are backed by a good company Citigroup. Which I read as the best company to work for in Forbes 2000. Forbes I think they’re credible I’m not sure. Maybe they screw people over that’s why they are at the top. Stop being pessimistic and bring people down. Be an adult, respect the business and move on If you don’t like it. Primerica Helps families SAVE money. We never sell anything. The only thing we do is offer you the opportunity to save money and offer you a job. Did I take your precious $11/hr wage from you on which you might spend on that new TV you just have to have. No I didn’t. Nothing but 20 minutes and a chance to save money is all I presented.

I’ve taken the Landmark Forum, and find Landmark somewhat cultlike. I have definitely received benefits from taking the Forum, but I find some of the behaviors of some of the representatives rather high pressure.
Some aspects of Landmark remind me of some of the cult-like aspects of Amway. However Landmark did NOT remind me of N.I.C.E., the organization in ‘That Hideous Strength’.
Interestingly, back during G. W. Bush’s first term, a number of leftists were criticising Cheney, if I recall correctly, for making the sort of statements I regularly heard from Forum leaders. After a while I found myself wondering if Cheney were a Landmark graduate. (Specifically, Cheney refered to known-unknowns and unknown-unknowns, or things we KNOW we don’t know, and things which we DON’T KNOW we don’t know)
you are an idiot you are prolly one of those losers who have no friends and no one would help you get started. you need things like insurance dumbass you need to invest for your retirement and everyon needs to get out of debt so i dont care about those other companies but primerica is there for a reason primerica has values to stand on. ther is nothing exciting about selling someone soap. but there is in getting someone out of debt, getting a family with no insurance insurance helping someone put a college fund in place for their child, planning for retirement. ya those things have no benefit to the economy, think again moron. Of course you will have ups and downs in business, but bill gates was not a billionaire over night, he prolly had some ups and downs himself. So in closing you are prolly just a primerica, amway, and landmark education reject who thinks he has a good job, and that at age 65 he will get to ritire with a gold watch a pension and a walker. There is a lot of money and a lot of potential in helping people with Primerica. It’s your option to snub it or to believe in it. You can’t just immediately disregard the fact that there are people out there who just don’t know how to handle their money.
One of my client started out in debt and after 4 years of managing his finances through Primerica, we were able to help him pay off his debts and build his credit. So you can’t just say these are all scams without fully knowing some of the ways we’ve helped these people.
Anytime you have doubts about something like this, stay away.
Listen to your gut - it’s telling you that this is a bad idea.
I recently completed the Landmark Forum and found minimal value in all their nonsense. They should be ashamed for preying on the weak and vulnerable. They should be ashamed for wasting 44 hrs of my life in a forum that contained maybe 6 hrs of “training” and 38 hrs of timeshare-style selling.
This is a SCAM and INSULTS the intelligence of normal-thinking adults. Everyone has problems - NOT everyone needs Landmark despite what they preach.

They are just another scam where you and your poor friends are the only customers. The more people you lure into that, the more resentments you will get eventually. Possibly 1 out of 1,000 can make money. There are lot of former victims testimony on the web you can check out.
Do not go as a ‘guest’ of someone. It is a sham. My sister is a different person, talks different (almost zombie-like) it’s sick. This is a sick organization that has no formal mental health training for mass self-help forums like this.

I have made $32,000 since my first session with Primerica. It may not be that much but it supplements my full-time job.
my BF of three years got SUCKED into this Landmark bs. it ruined our relationship and he is a completely different person. it makes me sick just to think about it. it is very interesting how it works. how certain people can take lessons and be like, “cool. thats an interesting perspective” and then incorporate that into who they are and move on. right? and then there are those, like my recent ex, who eat that shit up with a spoon and get totally sucked into it. its like our entire relationship was suddenly filtered through landmark. he even quit his job and worked for them “on staff” for six months. it was just awful. i worry about him and warn people to stay away from this crap. it is can be very damaging and destructive.
Your experience is interesting but I wouldn’t really demonize all these companies. To a certain degree it’s controlled by the market. The reason a company like Market America does well is because they can sell these products. It’s a matter of economics. Now matter HOW you sell shampoo or vitamins ultimately the buyer makes the final decision. Nobody is forcing these people to buy any of this.
I agree that everyone should do their homework in researching any activity before they get involved in it.
