Giant Robot New York Rad Bones Opening Reception 5.19.07!

Giant Robot New York Rad Bones 01

Giant Robot New York had another gallery show but this time exclusively for Jesse LeDoux and Keith Shore. They’re from outta town. Connecticut? I don’t remember. I’m lucky I remember their names at all (but then of course, it’s also written clearly on that flier [above]).

The GRNY staff are all very nice. I’m going to get nice with them and then start borrowing money.

Toy Tokyo DEVILROBOTS NY Tofu 5.19.07!

Toy Tokyo Devil Robot 02

This was about a week ago. It was interesting. I was on my way to Giant Robot and I saw that there was some thing going on at Toy Tokyo. I have been to a Showroom thing before but they read what I wrote and I don’t think they included me on the mailing list cause my comments weren’t friendly. OH WELL… Anyway, this stuff is for little kids. Is that wrong to say? I remember when I was overseas and I saw these things and I thought they were quirky, but that was years ago and I’m an old man now, a more serious old man (cough, cough).

The novelty of this stuff wears off on me. I see it, I think about it, I’m done, where’s my Ensure fiber drink?

Let me tell you something about myself. When I’m tired, I become completely retarded. Is that the P.C. term? retarded? I think so. Anyway, I tend to make all these ridiculous purchases without thinking. So I sign on, check my mail, and literally 3 seconds later, BOOM! I’ve got a 3-Day Weekend Pass for the NYC Bicycle Film Festival 2007 even though I had to 1.) work on that cure for cancer and 2.) wrestle a black bear with my bare hands -DAMN! I am so manly!

Look at my goddamned pictures:

Bicycle Film Festival Street Party 5.19.07!

Saturday was crazy. There were so many things going on that day. I went to 3-4 things. Seriously, usually, I’ve got one thing planned out and I’d figure, okay, well, atleast I did something that day but Saturday way crazy. I went to #1 - BFF Street Party, #2 - BFF films (programs), #3 Toy Tokyo Showroom Tofu Party, #4 Giant Robot Keith and Jesse Show. I’ll elaborate tomorrow or something, with pictures. In the meantime, watch the grand time I had at the BFF Street Party. Today, Sunday (well, yesterday, cause it’s 1:58 AM Monday morning, but I’m stilling calling it Sunday cause I haven’t slept yet) I fucking went to the office and did work, what I douche I am - missed the whole BFF finale (tear). BFF End Party Monday. Where? I don’t know, use Google.

Dave’s Quality Meat crew was there. Along w/ various downtown hipster whatever whatever blahbitty blah blah. I’m awesome! Look-at-me people, you know what I’m sayin’?

THERE WILL BE PICTURES, you bitches. I mean… I mean… my humble readers (all five, please still be my friends). oh, reminds me. I got myspace, add me.

Takashi Murakami at the Gagosian Gallery 5.12.07

I went to this after I read the NY Times article. The place is very uppity. It was two floors and only had a handful of pieces. When you look up close, they’re not really painted. Maybe they are, I don’t really know. I mean, it could have been a combination of computer editting and airbrushing, I can’t tell. But it’s definitely not like Takashi Murakami used a paint brush because there are NO brush strokes.

Takashi Murakami in the NY Times

TM in the NY Times

Did you guys read that article in the NY Times about Takashi Murakami’s tea ceremony? Well then what are you waiting for? Read it:

The Warhol of Japan Pours Ritual Tea in a Zen Moment
By CAROL VOGEL

The unmistakable aroma of incense wafted through the Gagosian Gallery on Madison Avenue one afternoon last week. It wasn’t the only hint that business was not as usual. Instead of chicly dressed gallery assistants, demure Japanese ladies in colorful kimonos greeted visitors.

New York City Bike Film Festival ‘07 (their website is a piece of shit)!

website

I already bought a ticket for this shindig. There are happenings from the 16th through the 20th. Expect coverage! Navigating and trying to get a copy of the schedule is incredibly difficult. They probably assume bikers don’t like everything laid out nice and clearly. Instead, what they have on the site is a jumbled list of events where you have to click through several pages for each individual event/film in order for you to find the time and location. What they SHOULD have done was just have a pdf file w/ all the event times and locations for you to print out and follow. Imagine all those hours lost by the countless numbers of people who signed up for this thing. Ugh. I think they don’t want people going or something.

Destroying the allure of “Underground”

The New Yorker did an exposé on Banksy, the London based graffiti artist. I always thought the appeal of underground art was that it was underground. The power of the internet has made underground artists/designers/brands explode.

Anyway, I like The New Yorker. Sometimes Sasha-Frere Jones will do a review on new hip hop albums. It’s weird to see those in that uppity literary journal. Here’s the goddamned article:

Banksy New Yorker

Banksy Was Here
The invisible man of graffiti art.
by Lauren Collins May 14, 2007

The British graffiti artist Banksy likes pizza, though his preference in toppings cannot be definitively ascertained. He has a gold tooth. He has a silver tooth. He has a silver earring. He’s an anarchist environmentalist who travels by chauffeured S.U.V. He was born in 1978, or 1974, in Bristol, England—no, Yate. The son of a butcher and a housewife, or a delivery driver and a hospital worker, he’s fat, he’s skinny, he’s an introverted workhorse, he’s a breeze-shooting exhibitionist given to drinking pint after pint of stout. For a while now, Banksy has lived in London: if not in Shoreditch, then in Hoxton. Joel Unangst, who had the nearly unprecedented experience of meeting Banksy last year, in Los Angeles, when the artist rented a warehouse from him for an exhibition, can confirm that Banksy often dresses in a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. When Unangst is asked what adorns the T-shirts, he will allow, before fretting that he has revealed too much already, that they are covered with smudges of white paint.

SNL Classics - Puns!

COLONEL ANGUS!

I don’t really want to just post a bunch of YouTube videos. But here you go, TA-DA! Three hilarious skits using puns!

CAULK!

SOFA KING!

These are great. Hopefully there’s no explanation necessary. If you’re not amused by these, it’s because you don’t get them. OR! you’re a frigid bitch. Enjoy.

Chongalicious!

This is pretty funny. I don’t really know what a Chonga is but based on this video and all the other “Chonga” related videos on Youtube, you have to have a fat one and a skinny one.
