I think this is still going on right now. He’s a small man and he looks like his art. Seriously, I need to get a new goddamn camera. Anyway, yeah, he’s a small little man who doesn’t speak much and has some feminine mannerisms. He’s part of the early 90’s Beijing art movement “Cynical Realism.”

Being there, standing near all this art makes me wonder what will happen to him. I hope he gains more notoriety in the US. I hope he doesn’t become kitschy. Look at the piece below with Garfield and that other comic character, I don’t remember his name. What is that? That piece feels forced and out of place.

I noticed that all his pieces is him in this pink color and with his eyes closed. Maybe I should have waited for him to turn pink. He started drinking alcohol while I was there. But if he’s from Beijing, he probably has high tolerance. Okay, look at the pictures and leave me alone.

I went to it. I took zero pictures. Thank god I didn’t bring my camera. I watched a bunch of people just taking pictures during the entire thing. If I had brought my camera, I might have done that bullshit too. Anyway, I’ll post some pictures when people start posting on flickr.

MIA let people get on stage. It was pretty crazy. I didn’t go on stage. I wasn’t that interested. However, it was pretty fun being in the middle of all those people TRYING to get on stage. It was like a mosh pit. I was getting pushed and shoved all over the place.

Several interesting things:

1. There was this guy, one of the guys who got on stage, and he tried to kiss and dry hump MIA. He was a genuine molester. I was just watching and laughing. It was gutsy and gross.

This type of stuff is called photorealism. I think it’s just taking a photograph and then redoing it on canvas inch by inch. I’ve done that crap before, I think. Chuck Close is famous because of it. I like it. The use of the Tussin bottle is pretty interesting. Is that real? I thought it was Robitussin. Tussin is the generic Robitussin I guess. Take a look at the pictures below.
